Spanda

The Universal law of Spanda describes the impulse that brings about creation, sustainment and death.  This cycle is everywhere: the life cycle of living beings, a round of breath, a day, pleasurable or painful periods. Everything is temporary, even if it feels something will last forever.  Cycles must end for a new cycle to begin. Discover how learning with Yoga, we can embrace this law and aide us to find rejuvenation and sustain your health.

We can see Spanda in the world around us, expressed in the endless pulsations of life. Every space in the garden is bursting with life in spring and we must put our intentions to maintenance to keep up! We see the new plant life burst on the scene and mirror the seasons, sustaining itself before breaking down as the growing conditions deteriorate. This isn’t the end, nor does it feel wrong or bad. It is how life is expressed. The cycle MUST end for rejuvenation to occur and a new cycle of life to express itself .

Yoga and Hindi philosophies use gods to represent pulsating energies that pervade all life such as the force of consciousness.  Represented in stories, the three gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, describe Spanda as the conscious repeating pulsation of creation, upkeep and destruction in the world.

Evolving and adapting means being aware of this cycle.  Amusement and comfortable times are temporary, just as stressful situations. Stress can be caused by outside factors or our behaviour and physical patterns. We can create a boundary with outside stresses to create more calmness that can rejuvenate us.  We can release old thought patterns to create a new healthier perspective. We can be active in the cycle of Spanda and use right action to end an unhealthy cycle to begin with a fresh perspective.

Physically, if we can release old patterns of movement, we can find more expansive mobility and develop strength. This WILL have an effect on mood, energy and pain levels.  Releasing old ways of doing things will bring a sense of rejuvenation once a new pattern or routine is welcomed.

Imagine what this can do to your outer world once you feel your inner world brighten.  This is a big part of improving your health.  It involves incorporating new exercise routines and leaving old unhealthy habits behind.  Incorporating a new practice is hard.  Our minds struggle to let go of the old stagnant routines, habits & thought patterns.  The skills learned by practicing yoga will help you through this process.  Join me on the mat as I take you through alignment principles and themes that will open your heart and mind to new tools, and help you to discover rejuvenation and a healthier you.
